Where It All Began
Cleaning Systems Ltd was founded in 1991 by Rosemary and Nathan Pritchard, operating out of their family home in Papatoetoe. With a background in running a successful carpet cleaning business throughout the 1980s, Rosemary and Nathan identified a gap in the market. At the time, industry support for independent operators was scarce, and most options catered exclusively to franchise members.
The Vision
To provide top-quality equipment, products, and training tailored to the needs of carpet cleaners across New Zealand. From the beginning, CSL focused on sourcing innovative solutions internationally, especially as the industry shifted from traditional wool carpets to modern synthetic materials, which presented new challenges and opportunities.
Expanding Horizons
As the business grew, CSL moved through a series of key locations:
- Keith Hay Drive, Manukau City – marking the first step into a commercial space.
- 31 Olive Road, Penrose – where the team expanded and a sense of community started forming.
- 659 Great South Road, Penrose – another milestone reflecting continued growth.
- 331A East Tamaki Road – our large central locale, where we continued to serve the industry with excellence including further expansion of our mobile NZ technician service.
- 41b Trugood Drive – our current, modern, and thriving hub – offering state of the art training facility, showroom, and comprehensive service workshop.
Pioneering Achievements
Over the years, CSL has been at the forefront of the cleaning and restoration industry, introducing innovations and championing professional development:
- 1993: Launched New Zealand’s first free technical support line (0800 number).
- 1995: Introduced the IICRC qualifications to New Zealand, setting a new standard for the industry.
- 1996: Brought truck-mounted carpet cleaning technology to New Zealand.
- 2000: Developed “FastTrack Training” (now Ascend Training) to elevate industry knowledge.
- 2008: Worked with ITO to establish NZQA standards for cleaning.
- 2016: Introduced a mobile Truckmount service to meet evolving customer needs.
Today and Beyond
