This programme provides the Urban Pest Management (UPM) industry with competent technicians who have the skills and knowledge required to safely carry out pest management in built environments with limited supervision.
This programme meets the requirements of the EPA’s Hazardous Substance (Hazardous Property Controls) Notice 2017 to enable learners to legally become qualified UPM contractors and engage in domestic and commercial Pest Control.
The programme is delivered via Live Stream or classroom style depending on what suits the individual learner. In addition the learning is supported by workplace mentors and assessors from around New Zealand at the commencement of the learning which means the program is effective whether the learner has workplace support of is self-employed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This program is only delivered through CSL Ascend Training Ltd.
The programme includes developing and/or recognising the following competencies in your staff:
- Maintaining health and safety in a range of conditions.
- Demonstrating knowledge of the legislative framework and regulatory controls governing the urban pest management industry.
- Communicating, reporting and recording information for workplace requirements.
- Identifying the purpose and impacts of pest-control activities.
- Identifying, controlling and monitoring pests commonly found in an urban environment.
Eligibility for Enrolment – Urban Pest Management Level 3
To enrol in the Urban Pest Management (UPM) Level 3 Qualification, you must have an approved observer to oversee your workplace-based practical training.
Who can be an observer?
- If you are employed by a pest control company, your workplace manager or another qualified technician can act as your observer.
- If you are a sole trader without industry contacts, you may engage one of our recommended independent observers to complete your assessments.
An observer must:
- Work closely with you during practical training
- Understand workplace performance standards
- Be familiar with the task being assessed and required outcomes
- Apply workplace policies and procedures
- Hold greater experience or qualifications than the learner
- Provide constructive feedback
